About GIFT

"Centre for Taxation Studies" (CTS) is an autonomous research Institute, formed in 1992 by the Government of Kerala and registered under the Travancore-Cochin-Literary Scientific and Charitable Societies Act, 1955. In 2009, with financial support from the Government of India, CTS was upgraded by the Government of Kerala and renamed as "Gulati Institute of Finance and Taxation" (GIFT). Professor I.S. Gulati, was an eminent economist of the country whose contributions in the areas of centre–state financial relations, taxation, migration-related issues and international trade are recognized the world over.

The new Institute is envisaged as a centre of excellence, engaged in research, training, consultancy and provision of inputs to policy-making of the State Government and the Union Government with a strong academic base and core competence in the areas of federal finance and taxation. Such a pioneering institution in the area of state level taxation in India will contribute to a just, transparent and state-of-the-art fiscal governance system that optimises mobilisation of resources for rational, equitable and sustainable use in the GST scenario.

The new campus of Gulati Institute of Finance and Taxation at Sreekariyam, Thiruvananthapuram, with GRIHA certification (green rating for integrated habitat assessment) with more than 1.2 lakh sq.feet area sprawling across four and a half acres in the heart of the capital city is in its final stages of completion. Constructed by BSNL Civil Wing, the new Campus is expected to be ready for occupation by the second week of June, 2013. We hope to strengthen our partnership with Government of India to carry forward the building of a global centre of excellence in the area of federal finance and taxation.
